Yemen Ends Defense Pact with UAE

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Yemen declared the termination of its defense agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and demanded that all Emirati troops leave Yemeni soil within 24 hours.

The move came after reports of arms deliveries from the UAE to Southern Transitional Council (STC) forces in the south.

“All Emirati forces must withdraw from all Yemeni territory within 24 hours,” announced Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, during a televised address.

Al-Alimi also revealed that a nationwide state of emergency has been instituted, lasting 90 days, alongside a 72-hour suspension of air and land traffic across all ports and border crossings.

Earlier the same day, the Saudi-led coalition carried out a "limited" aerial strike against two ships docked at Mukalla port.

According to a news agency, coalition spokesperson Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki explained that the vessels had arrived from the UAE’s Fujairah port on Dec. 27–28 without obtaining clearance from the coalition’s Joint Forces Command.
