Yemen Fighting Flares Near Taiz as Missiles Hit Aden Airport
The channel said combat resumed on the Al-Aqroudh and Al-Masrakh fronts and in the village of Al-Rahn, in the Sabir al-Mawadim district.
Airport reopens after missile strikes
Flights have resumed at Aden International Airport. The facility and surrounding areas had come under missile attack after Houthi threats to hit the site.
On Wednesday, a missile landed at Al-Nasr Camp, next to the airport, which houses Yemeni Coast Guard forces and Interior Ministry headquarters, eyewitnesses told a Turkish news agency.
The Yemeni army later said two ballistic missiles fired by the Houthis hit the airport, wounding civilians and causing material damage.
Evacuation call preceded the attack
The strikes followed a call by Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree for people at the airport to evacuate ahead of a planned attack, according to a television channel affiliated with the group.
A war in its second decade
Yemen has been at war since the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa and several other provinces in September 2014. A Saudi-led Arab coalition intervened in March 2015 in support of the country’s internationally recognized government.
